hellbastard sons of bitches and dresden split cover art

I have been waiting for this one for quite some time; Scruff and the guys are back and are as pissed off as ever! It's been two years since the HellBastard / Dissent Split 7" which featured the tracks "Sea Shepherd" and "Massacre" and, goddamn, it was well worth the wait!

Most of you have already heard "Arcadia" on our compilation or seen the outstanding video (see below) they did, but that track is only the tip of the iceberg of what you hear on this five track powerhouse! I have to congratulate the guys on the album; never ceasing, uncompromisable rage and hostility towards corruption, tyranny and hypocrisy have always been trademarks of HellBastard, but this has got to be one of their finest moments with inspired tracks like "Sons of Bitches" and "System Whore" while at the same time, producing an outstanding melodic piece of aggression in "We Had Evidence"...that track in of itself is so exceptional I have few words to describe how well it displays the underlying talent of HellBastard; it begins with delicate, dare I say, progressive metal styled string work that quickly gives way to howling crunch backed by an "Amebix meets Sabbath" tempo...later, a tapping cymbal is the harbinger of an insane guitar change which pulls the listener headfirst into a bone crusher of a song. I am dead serious, I don't think I've heard anything quite like it; from a Maiden-like melody to Slayer ferocity wrapped up in the brand of crust that only HellBastard has, my jaw was left agape...Winston Churchill's voice in the background is a nice touch too; "We Will Never Surrender"! How the hell they are able to tie it up together so seamlessly is beyond my abilities to put into writing but, rest assured, you will be saying "Holy Fuck that's awesome!" the moment you get to hear it. I feel extremely confident in saying that there's no way one could differ from the opinion that this whole album is a genre-defying and stunning piece indeed!

If you're a young one and aren't familiar with HellBastard (I feel sorry for you my son) or weren't able to catch them at the Maryland Deathfest this year, let me just tell you that they are one of those bands you need to get into...these guys are legends and they back that title up with their music. For a five song EP, "Sons of Bitches" is a complex piece of work, even going back to the roots of U.K. punk with a ska styled political ditty in "Throw de Petrol Bomb" (we're proud to be streaming it here below the videos)...which not only gets me in the mood for a bit of protest and amped to charge the police line but, a pull on some tasty ganja as well. It really threw me for a curve; totally uncharacteristic of the album up to that point...but which also enhanced my perception of what this band is about.

HellBastard's time has come my friends; of course, they gave name to a genre with the, almost mythical, "Ripper Crust" Demo, but this is one of those rare cases in music history in which the band's music evolves into something vastly superior to what they've released before. Reflect on that a moment will you? Imagine if you will, a band who puts out music which is just as incredible as any work they've done previously, with just as much energy as their earlier albums, but with a musical ability which demonstrates clearly how brilliant they truly are.

The "Sons Of Bitches" EP is going to be released via Patac Records in the U.S. and SelfMadeGod in Europe sometime in the Fall...three songs off of this album are going be featured on the 12" split with Dresden via Profane Existence. So, it is imperative you keep up with the news and get an exact release date by watching their site or hooking up with them on Facebook or Twitter Here and Here; this is one album you really want to get as soon as it hits!

As with most bands which ply their trade away from the corporate label scene, HellBastard depends heavily on the fans to give them the support they need to continue with their art; it's high time for them to do a North American tour! So, when you get this album, the split with Dresden or any of their previous work, show your continued support by talking about them, get the word out, get others into their music, and who knows, maybe Scruff and the crew will roll into your town to shaft the establishment and burn the place down!
